The new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport HEV is arriving at Christchurch Mitsubishi from the start of December, with the XLS 2WD launching at a special introductory RSP of $39,990 + ORC for a limited time.

Mitsubishi’s first hybrid electric vehicle for New Zealand combines official fuel economy of just 4.0L/100km with the space, versatility and features needed for modern Kiwi lifestyles.
The two-model line-up comprises the XLS and higher-specification VRX. The VRX is available at an RSP of $46,990 + ORC, or $48,490 + ORC for the two-tone VRX.
Whether it is the daily commute across Christchurch, the school run or a weekend away, Outlander Sport offers the efficiency of a hybrid in a practical, easy-to-drive SUV.
4.0L/100km – without plugging in
Outlander Sport uses Mitsubishi’s Generation 2 HEV system, combining a 1.6-litre MIVEC petrol engine with an 85kW electric motor.
The system automatically selects the most efficient combination of electric and petrol power according to driving conditions and battery charge. Regenerative braking helps replenish the battery while driving, so there is no need to plug the vehicle in.
The result is combined fuel consumption of 4.0L/100km and CO₂ emissions of 95g/km WLTP.
Seven selectable drive modes
Seven drive modes provide added versatility and optimised performance for New Zealand’s variable terrain and driving conditions.
- Normal mode provides balanced everyday driving
- Tarmac, Wet, Gravel and Mud modes tailor vehicle behaviour to different surfaces
- EV Priority mode prioritises electric operation
- Charge mode allows the drive battery to be replenished while driving
Equipped for Kiwi lifestyles
At 4,390mm long and 1,810mm wide, Outlander Sport has compact dimensions well suited to driving around Christchurch. Its 2,650mm wheelbase helps create a comfortable five-seat cabin.
Rear passengers benefit from a completely flat floor and an eight-position reclining seatback. The 40:20:40 split-folding rear seat provides flexibility when carrying a combination of people and gear.
The 329-litre luggage compartment is wide enough to accommodate two large suitcases side by side, with a further 21 litres of underfloor storage.
A panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade is standard on both XLS and VRX, bringing more light into the cabin and adding to its sense of space.

A distinctive new Mitsubishi
Outlander Sport introduces a fresh interpretation of Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design.
Its strong SUV stance is complemented by louvre-style daytime running lights, horizontal T-shaped rear lights and the new “Silky and Solid” design concept previewed earlier this year.
